Lithuania–Ukraine relations

Lithuania–Ukraine relations are foreign relations between Lithuania and Ukraine. Lithuania has an embassy in Kiev and an honorary consulates in Lviv. Ukraine has an embassy in Vilnius and 3 honorary consulates (in Klaipėda, Šalčininkai and Visaginas).
==History of relations==
Between 1569 and 1795 Poland and Lithuania formed the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth which incorporated much of what is now Ukraine.〔(Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine to form brigade for UN, EU and NATO peacekeeping missions ), NY Daily News (November 16, 2009)〕 Before 1918 both countries were part of the Russian empire and until 1991 part of the USSR.
A number of agreements were signed in November 2009 including the mutual recognition of university qualifications and cooperation in preserving cultural heritage; furthermore Lithuania promised assistance to Ukraine with obtaining EU-membership.〔(Ukraine, Lithuania sign series of agreements ), Kyiv Post (November 26, 2009)〕〔(Lithuania promises assistance on Ukraine's path to EU membership ), Kyiv Post (November 26, 2009)〕
Lithuania, which suffered January Events previously, widely supported Ukraine during bloody 2014-2015 events. The events started when Ukraine's president Viktor Yanukovych decided not to sign free trade agreement with the European Union in Vilnius on November 28-29th. As a result, Euromaidan sparked in Kiev and other regions. Lithuania's politicians, including Vytautas Landsbergis and Seimas leader Loreta Graužinienė, along with other officers participated in peaceful Euromaidan events in Kiev. Due to Russian military intervention in Ukraine, Lithuania, as a member of the United Nations Security Council, constantly was calling Council meetings as the war progressed.〔(Lithuania calls UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine )〕 Lithuania president Dalia Grybauskaitė, showing her support to Ukraine, named Russia as a "Terrorist State" due to her constant military supplement to the Pro-Russian separatists.〔(President of Lithuania Gets Punk’d After Declaring Russia a ‘Terrorist State’ ) 〕 Later on, Vytautas Landsbergis declared that Minsk peace negotiations, after which Ukraine was losing more and more territories (despite formal peace state) is "much worse than Munich".〔(Lithuanian leader: Minsk ‘much worse than Munich’ ) 〕
